An illustration for Light Grey Art Lab’s CURIO art show, involving the participants in their 2018 Norway and Iceland Creative Residencies. My team, Team Sol, decided on a Norse Rune theme.

Literally translating to "Birch Goddess", the rune Berkano represents continued growth and rebirth, cycles, and female fertility/energy. There’s speculation on which Norse goddess is the Birch Goddess. My favorite theory is that it actually represents parts of 3 goddesses; Freya, Frigga, and Hel. My illustration depicts these three goddesses surrounded by their associated symbols and items, as well as other motifs of Berkano.
